Global News reported on March 14, 2024 that Rochon Genova has filed a national class action against Otsuka Canada Pharmaceutical Inc. and Lundbeck Canada Inc., the co-developers of the antipsychotic drug Rexulti (brexpiprazole). The lawsuit alleges that Rexulti can cause compulsive behaviours and impulse control disorders — including compulsive gambling, hypersexuality, compulsive shopping and binge eating — and that the companies failed to adequately warn patients and physicians of these risks. The class action covers Canadian residents prescribed Rexulti starting February 16, 2017 who developed one of the alleged side effects. The Superior Court of Quebec authorized the national class action in March 2024. Both companies have denied the allegations.
